It seems the first demo of the Flyboard was in December 2011. By the time of the 2012 Flyboard Championships 50 athletes from 20 countries competed. Seems like it got introduced in time for the first Flyboard championship to occur in September 2012, 9 months later. Those 50 flyboarders had to be using it for some time before that. http://www.flyboardcy.com/flyboard-world-cup.html .
