Looks like someone with large pockets was also watching the patent updates

Exactly my feeling... this is smart money buying in now... and they are not buying at $1.90 to sell at $2.25... so these shares are being locked away for long term profits.

Remember what I said a while back - soon every institution that wants 1 million shares will drive the price up by $1.00 - this may well be the first of that lot.
