A project at Oak Ridge National Laboratory.
Energy storage, I mean large scale energy storage, is our major worldwide energy problem.
Connecting solar energy / wind energy / tide energy / etc, and store the surplus for 24 hours with little energy loss.
We all know batteries, storage in hydrogen,etc.
Expensive installations, and with an efficiency of 60% max.

This simple installation at lab. scale has an efficiency of more than 80%
Energy surplus = pressurise gas by pumping water in a tank (waste heat can be added for extra pressure)
Energy need = pressurised water will run the generator by a Pelton turbine.

Pressurised (salt, or polluted) water can also be purified by other systems (see Energy recovery).

I will follow this technology, it is a "free" technology with little patent rights.
GE can build these systems tomorrow (Pelton turbines with titanium blades, printed by....)
