Tuesday I apparently had the energy to actually get something done. The tiller the folks at the glass and door shop nearby loaned me really does the job. A Bolens 24 inch with a 6 horse Briggs and Stratton. I have actually hand spaded this bed four times in the past two seasons. After raking the soil smooth, I planted seeds.

30 square feet of America spinach from Seed Saver's Exchange
30 square feet of Forellenschluss lettuce from Seed Saver's Exchange
30 square feet of Winter Density lettuce from Seed Saver's Exchange
30 square feet of Atlas carrot, also known as Paris Market, from Johnny's in Maine

That netting from Johnny's comes in various sizes.

The soil temperature reading when I arrived read 62F. By 3 pm it was 95F.

I will have to water continuously throughout the day just assure some germination until the day time highs get a little lower.

The lack of rainfall causes tomatoes to split. The deficit from average this season in zone 7b is roughly half a foot.

He looks at you like you owe him money.
