Why wouldn't a company like Verb try to come out with a multi-specialty robot? Something that can handle general procedures, ortho procedures, neuro procedures, spine procedures, etc? J&J is a company with a presence in areas outside of general surgery so they may have interest in something like this as it would drive disposable and case-driven revenue in each of their divisions. The ROI would make a lot more sense for the hospital to buy a robot that can handle multiple specialties. And I *think* the difference in specialties could be handled by software that runs the robot.
I think that would be a huge threat to ISRG and based on Verb investing $250 million wouldn't be surprised to see them make a true software-driven platform capable of handling multi-specialty robotic surgery. Thoughts?
