"Slide the City cancelled because of low sales"

June 29, 2016
"More than 1,800 people slid down a huge water slide on South Main Street in downtown Salisbury for last year’s event. The slide was supposed to be placed on North Main Street this year with a tagline of “Slide the Other Side.”

Downtown Salisbury Inc. had been promoting the event in the Post, as well as its website and social media pages.

According to Paula Bohland, executive director of DSI, Slide the City cancelled the event because ticket sales were not what it expected this close to the event. DSI was notified of the cancellation on Monday.

Slide the City is a private event that partners with DSI and the city of Salisbury. DSI coordinates the event and recruits volunteers.

Bohland said the company mentioned that it would be reviewing whether it would bring the event back to Salisbury.

Slide the City is owned by Sack Lunch Productions, a company that specializes in event and film production, according to its website. Sack Lunch Productions usually works with larger markets and may want to focus on those larger markets and not a smaller market like Salisbury, Bohland said.
