Alibaba is not helping you navigate specific and changing regulatory environment by state and sometimes district and helping you determine WHAT you can buy. Also, is Alibaba going to be liable if turns out that child proof and FDA certified packaging requirements that are supposed to be met actually weren't. You going to sue in China when you get sued? There are hundreds of reasons why in many industries even if product was somehow the same and cheaper in China or overseas why you wouldn't buy it. Also, if you have issues or need special delivery or other stuff - would you rather deal with a top customer service organization and pay a few cents more and take the risk that a Chinese company can accommodate hiccups or changes needed. C'mon people. if this was all true why why are their revenues growing rapidly, I mean their business should be on a downward spiral, and they should have huge issues raising capital from sophisticated private placement investors - yet they are not. I guess all these investors are stupid as well. First off I dont think this is a straight commodity play, but even if it was there are hugely successful companies and industries that thrive on this - often its about all the other intangibles such as cutsomer service, relationships, trusts, etc
