No point in denying the scientific fact: when you translate the science into a meaningful form in laymans terms... you realize you are probably 6 months from having a device for testing. 2 years from being to market minimum. Also, they just put out a news release and the share price is up 1-2 cents, now you wait for 6 more months, why bother. The next news release will do the same, it's only going to say that they have the ionizer and detector hooked up. So...

---

TRANSLATION OF RECENT NEWS ARTICLE! This device won't be ready for 6+ months. Here's why. Read this through, I have dumb down everything.

Quote:Preliminary lab tests of the FAIMS device coupled with conventional quadrupole mass spectrometry

This means they have to attach their desktop sized device and FAIMS cell to a massive mass spectrometer in the lab. Which of course is not something you can take with you in a police car (and let's not forget a mass spectromter costs hundreds of thousands of dollars - per unit).

Quote:The FAIMS cell employed in this device is 4X smaller than the prior benchtop version and has a 10X reduction in power supply requirements, which allows a drastically smaller footprint.

This just says that they have developed a new FAIMS cell, the piece that goes inside the device they are hopefully going to build. The FAIMS cell is basically the piece of the device which separates the ions by charge. So.. this doesn't mean there is a breathalyzer, this just means they have one single piece of the internal components of the device they have not yet built.

Quote:The current power supply is readily configurable for ongoing testing and is designed to integrate with the non-radioactive ionization source and soon to be implemented customized detector.

This reiterates my point. They only have the FAIMS cell/power supply. The actual piece that gets the breath molecules ionized ( the ionization source) has not even been added yet. Hence the reason they needed to couple with the conventional mass spectromter in order to do so. The detector hasn't been added either, which is the piece needed to create the signature the computer reads out. That's a massive piece that's is missing. They haven't even added it to their desktop sized device yet.

The Company expects to complete a “Beta 2.0” device that will be prepared for external testing. With ongoing technical advances,

Quote:the company is rapidly reducing the size of each internal component

Re-iterates my point. The company has only got one piece of the puzzle and there are many more needed to go.

I am sure the concepts presented in this news article are too hard to understand, and hopefully this clarifies for those who don't have chemical engineering backgrounds. This is heading to 15 cents.
