Keep Calm and Stop Listening to Fox News.

You are more likely to get crushed by furniture, hit by lightning, killed by the police, or die in a car accident than die in a terrorist attack. While I believe that we must do everything we can to end/prevent terrorism of any variety, please, please, do not invade any countries if I'm killed by terrorists, here or abroad.

Here is some perspective:

Consider, for instance, that since the attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, Americans have been no more likely to die at the hands of terrorists than being crushed to death by unstable televisions and furniture.

The chances of being killed in a terrorist attack are about 1 in 20 million. A person is as likely to be killed by his or her own furniture, and more likely to die in a car accident, drown in a bathtub, or in a building fire than from a terrorist attack.

6. Lightning: People often quip that one is “more likely to be struck by lightning” when they want to highlight an event’s improbability. However, even as the number of deaths from lightning decreases over the long-term, it is still higher than the number of people killed by Muslim terror attacks each year. Forty-nine people per year die from being struck by lightning — more than 15 times the rate of death from Islamic extremist murders.

With the exception of the Philippines, more Americans died from road crashes in all of the 160 countries surveyed than from homicides.
