US 9,364,896 B2 - Fabrication of hybrid solid-porous medical implantable devices with electron beam melting technology - Christensen, et al - June 14, 2016

EBM metal fabrication is an additive manufacturing technique utilizing an electron beam to melt metal powder into to a fully solid part, layer by layer. Like many rapid prototyping and manufacturing processes, EBM processing is able to create components with complex geometries from a digital CAD model. Unlike other metal rapid prototyping methods, which rely on high temperature sintering, the EBM process is capable of producing fully dense parts, or parts with total or partial porosity/lattice structure.
