Re: Ameritrade

Ok - here's my Ameritrade story today

I saw many posters this morning noting that their accounts were being updated on Ameritrade with the correct symbol, etc. So, I waited, hit REFRESH, logout/logon, etc. Finally after about 30 minutes I decided to call them. They told me that since I had bought on Friday, my shares that I held in my original investment for 5 months would not be tradeable until Thursday when the Friday share purchase cleared. They are all one transfer!

Not that I cared anyway, but I immediately said "What!? You mean if I wanted to sell I can't - I am getting penalized on my shares from the past because I bought more shares on Friday?". He said "Yes, I'm sorry those are the rules." He then explained the rules again and said "Do you want to speak with the manager". "Yes!!", I said.

So the manager comes on the line and tells me the same thing. I told him, "Look. I've owned those 180K shares for 5 months, they are mine! I should not be penalized if I wanted to sell before Thursday". After trying to tell me those were the rules, I told him that it wasn't right - those are my shares - they've been cleared for months! He said "Hold on". A few minutes later he said that I could sell out of the 180K lot, that he would note an exception in my account, but I would have to place the trade through the Restricted Shares office. I said fine.

I then asked him, "what if these were your shares - doesn't it seem fair that I should be able to sell if I wanted to? He agreed. I told him to note that I agreed not to sell any of the shares bought on Friday until they clear (and hence show up this Thursday).

Anyway, I was just setting something up just in case, plus I wanted to know what was up. It didn't matter anyway, but I just liked the battle.
