Christopher Krampitz, Director of Innovation & Strategy for UL Additive Manufacturing
Almost fell asleep till they got to the Q&A.
At 49:15
Q: How have the metal machine OEM’s supported the QMS process? Have they been entirely supportive considering they are giving away the secrete sauce of the process.
A: Christopher Krampitz, Yeah I think my observation of the technology suppliers is they are concerned about right now reducing variation in their production lines so they can produce machines that are more consistent. And so right now Quality Management Systems are ultimately for ultimate part performance is still a secondary thought. All of the innovation, they do acknowledge they need to work on that and they are taking steps that I think they are doing that further upstream into the process. They have been supportive of the Quality Management Systems. Not necessarily developing a new standard but in fostering quality, and you see some of these technologies suppliers who have developed their teams that are advanced application engineers or consultants that help manufactures who are adopting the technology reduce the quality and better manage it.
Might explain why things are moving so slow.
More interesting stuff at 52:00 also.
Remember UL has a stake in 3DSIM also.
