Staples Signs 10-Year Lease at Summit Park and Office Depot Q2 Profit Rises
Staples Inc. (Nasdaq:SPLS) has signed a 10-year lease for 58,000 square feet at 1901 Summit Tower Blvd. in Summit Park in Orlando. Framingham, Mass.-headquartered Staples (Nasdaq: SPLS), which was represented by David Gunther of Dallas, Texas, will use the space for a new Telesales Center that will initially employ 100 salespeople to support growth of its North American delivery business unit. The Telesales Center opens this summer. China Direct Trading Corp. (OTC BB:CHDT) recently announced preliminary top line revenue for the first six months of 2006 ended June 30, 2006 of $11 million, an increase of over 2300 percent as compared to revenue of $465,000 reported for the first six months of 2005. First six months 2006 results include $10,750,000 from the sale of power generators by Complete Power Solutions, LLC, a China Direct majority-owned subsidiary, (CPS).

Office supplies retailer Office Depot Inc. (NYSE:ODP) on Friday reported better-than-expected second-quarter profit, helped by sales in North America and lower expenses. Net income for the second quarter ended July 1 was $118 million, or 41 cents per share, up 18 percent from $100 million, or 31 cents per share, in the year-ago quarter. Excluding charges, profit was 43 cents in the 2006 quarter. Analysts expected 40 cents a share, according to Reuters Estimates. Classic Basket has been selected as an Amazon.com (Nasdaq:AMZN) vendor partner and will be included in the popular online retailer's catalog. Beth Williams of Hoover started the company in her home in 1998. Classic Basket now has a store in downtown Birmingham and a warehouse in Bessemer. "We realized that we truly were a worldwide company when we joined an elite group that has shipped gifts to all seven continents, but the new relationship with Amazon.com is the next step in creating the huge production company I've always envisioned," Williams says in a news release announcing the Amazon.com selection.
