For the consumer in it's first release, I suspect it will be a complete bust, as I expect a price premium that won't make any sense.


For most consumers it doesn't make any sense, since SATA interface speeds are already limiting existing SSDs. Most of the speed increase from SSDs come from faster access times anyway, rather than maximum throughput.

I still think that, if 3D Xpoint will be successful, it must compete in price with NAND. Don't know if the price gap, named by Intel, between 3D Xpoint and Nand is inherent or can be overcome by scale. If the latter is the case, it could become a cash cow though. The problem I see is that prices for SSDs really have come down recently. Will that leave a window for competition with 3D Xpoint?
