What about Altera? Is the process advantage enough to overcome the time-to-market disadvantage? Stratix 10 is now scheduled for mid 2017.

What the hell is wrong with this company? It is certainly not just Krzanich who isn't capable of doing his freaking job. There seems to be some poisoned attitude in place at Intel. It seems like a completely different company than it was ten years ago.

Regarding Apple: They certainly will want to integrate the modem, just for cost reasons. It's not that Apple needs it to be competitive, since they don't compete in the low and mid end, but the lower the costs, the better. Simple as that.

Apple likes competition among its suppliers. I think that's the only reason they have given Intel this design win. Qualcomm's position in modems was too strong. Maybe Intel also signaled that they would Apple allow to integrate their modem into Apple's APs. Qualcomm may not be interested in this, since they'd prefer to sell their own SoCs to Intel instead. Also using Intel as foundry could be interesting for Apple, as long as Intel has a lead and is cheap enough. I have doubts about Intel getting this right, though. They can't just buy Apple like they did with Altera when things go wrong ...

What pisses me off the most is that Intel management simply doesn't talk about the reasons of all these failures. How can I as an investor have faith in this company when it simply doesn't tell me what is going wrong and how it intends to fix it.
