It seems Huawei is now making 16nm 16 core ARM server to its in-house core design and has been testing it at Alibaba. It talks about competing with Qualcomm.



Definitely a strong competitor. Huawei is in the server and switches market, so basically vertically integrated. Huawei's Hisilicon does build competitive mobile SoCs, in comparison to Intel ...

They could offer competitive packages for various solutions which integrate their processors. The software side is still critical I guess. Could also be interesting for software based switches.

China, including domestic clients, will most likely support Huawei, since they want spy free (or shall I say, western spy free) hardware. ARM is open source in the sense that you'll get the behavioral code for their processors, so you can check the internals.

Still a very long way to beat x86 in servers, but still, this needs to be followed closely.
