Elmer, I agree we know nothing yet. From one side, AMD definitely had SOI problems all this year. We see that by the huge gate size in the Opteron cache.

From the other side we have CC note that SOI is the fastest AMD process and we heard a rumor that they are preparing 750,000 A64's for the launch. Maybe even 75,000 will be enough to improve the picture? After all, Athlon has no problem competing against P4 2.2, 2.4 and 2.6, scoring close with 2.8. The 3.0 and 3.2 are out of reach, but they are well < than 5% of total (in units). So 2% of A64 will mirror the picture.

We already know that A64 1.8 Ghz is approximately equal to P4 3.2/400 in gaming benchmarks, winning for sure in UT and serious sam. If they manage to bring 2 Ghz, it will be substantially faster than P4 in most games.
