The Federal Aviation Administration proposed a rule that will enable the implementation of new technologies commonly known as "fuel tank inerting" with a system such as Doll Technology’s “Hypoxic Air” system. Doll’s system reduces the oxygen in fuel tanks thereby eliminating the risk of a fuel tank explosion. FAA chief Marion Blakey said in a statement, "We're proposing to increase the level of aircraft safety by reducing the potentially explosive ingredient of flammable fuel vapors.”
