Daily Download numbers to be a top 25 app in the App Store!

I have found an article written by an expert in the field of apps. See Elaine Heney's Bio to see why her numbers are absolutely reliable data. Disclaimer - she uses the term estimation as well.

The article from 2013 on her website is How Many Daily Downloads Does It Take To Reach The Top Of The App Store?

Here is an excerpt from the main one we need regarding Free Books Category! To reach the top 25 ranked in that category in the US, not in other countries, as of 2013 the app needed 1,230 daily downloads - this does not include any downloads outside the United States. Unfortunately I haven't found a newer article to show the more current. But a clue to realize the number is higher is the part of the article that states:

"A lot has changed since then. There are now more than 1 million apps in the App Store. With more apps and more downloads, the numbers required to reach the top 25 charts have changed substantially."

That was 2013 - should be safe to say there are more apps, more downloads and those numbers required to reach top 25 are even more substantially changed - meaning it takes more downloads per day to reach that top 25.

POWfolio was just off the mark at #28 on the 24th of May. It cracked the #25 the next day and has been in the top 15 consistently for 6 straight days. In 2013 an app needed 1,230 downloads per day just to reach the top 25. If that holds true for today at the minimum, that means POWfolio is estimated to have 8,610 downloads per week (that is calculated only for being #25, POWfolio has been #13 4 of those 7 days. They have had solid top 100, 500, and 1000 rankings throughout the world (at least 15 countries the last 3 days, not including today).

I am going to give my opinion as to an estimate based on the year of the article, much higher ranking than #25, and adding the global ranks.

A safe estimate in my opinion is going to be approximately 10,000 downloads per week minimum if they can stay in the top 25 ranking.

A significant reason I like this estimate more than the other best guess is the fact, experts did the analysis NOT ME! And put a hard number to the exact category we needed (FREE APPS in BOOKS Category). That is a number from the experts.

Of course, as the article restates as well, we can't answer it for exactly for a given app with out apple or the developer giving us the number, which I hope gets to us once beta Android comes out.

In the end, it is great news to see more concrete numbers to base an estimate on, and POWfolio is still #1 and rolling around the world!

good evening to all. thedocg
