Technical analysis is about extrapolating from existing patterns, and using the trends and trajectories from those patterns to make predictions about where things might go in the near future.

Technical analysis is occasionally a bit 'fluffy' - in that many of the underlying assumptions of the models used to make those projections can be violated, and in that significant and unexpected or unaccounted for changes in the factors used to make the projections can cause unexpected results.

However - "fluffy" does not equate to useless,... Especially in the short-term, those projections can be quite accurate until new factors come into play.

For example,.... if NNVC were to announce tomorrow that all eight of the candidate HerpeCide test compounds that they sent to their University cooperators had proven useless in the animal models and that none of them showed any efficacy in protecting against Herpes Viruses and that they had to go back to the drawing board for a complete redesign,...

The market would react to that change extremely negatively - and anybody who made a technical analysis predicting that the ~$1.50 range was providing support the day before that didn't take that extremely negative factor into account as a negative would likely find that their 'barrier' was broken and the next levels of projected support (much lower) would then get tested.

OR

For example,.... if NNVC were to announce tomorrow that they had found an optimized HerpeCide drug candidate that all 3 Universities claimed had superior efficacy in the animal models, and that they were shipping off a batch of that HerpeCide for TOX testing next week,....

The market would react to that change extremely positively - and anybody who made a technical analysis predicting that the ~$1.50 range was providing resistance the day before that didn't take that extremely positive factor into account as a positive would likely find that their 'barrier' was broken and the next levels of projected resistance(much higer) would then get tested.

Technical analysis can be quite useful in AT LEAST the short-term.
