Letter: Trump will not be able to ‘bring back coal’ (Gazette)
Trump will not be able to ‘bring back coal’
Editor:
Trump digs coal? Oh, really!
I watched in amazement as the snake-oil salesman told miners in Charleston that he would “… bring back coal and you’ll work your asses off … .” When will someone tell them that the accessible coal is gone, along with the profits which have gone to the out-of-state corporations?
The thin seams of coal left in the ground will be so expensive to mine that it can never compete with cheap gas and renewable energy. I hope the bearer of this bad news will pass the info to our governor and our legislators, too. The legacy left to West Virginia taxpayers is that we get to pay for cleanup of the mine sites left by the “bankrupt” coal companies. Apparently, Trump doesn’t know that the coal that has been leaving West Virginia for 100-plus years took millions of years to form underground.
Bringing the coal back will be even more difficult than getting Mexico to pay for the wall.
