A few years back, I did an extensive look at most, if not all companies I could 'find' online to determine what level these companies had NIJ certification for their plates. I'm sure these posts are available for review, some were specific to a particular brand.

To my surprise VERY few had the actual NIJ Certification. MOST all claimed the 'equivalent' capacity to protect at a particular NIJ Level but had no certifications. Several of these companies were quite successful and were well received in the law enforcement community.

When I was in contact with a SWAT member here, it was not clear whether the NIJ certs were required. . . seemed that the allowance paid to the officer did not require a NIJ proof of certification.

I suppose my point is that B.I. can move ahead and get the foundation for production and sales up and operating while NIJ certification is in process. As we all know that process is NOT inexpensive and likely could be a factor.
