One other thing on the new G4 purchase.....

The 1.25 might be a little faster on startups than my 533, but I could not tell a difference. For manipulating files and folders and adding some software, I noticed no difference it all.

Since Bob is using AOL Dialup, I could not compare page load speeds with my hi-speed page loads.

All I can say is my 533 is plenty fast enough for doing average stuff and as we have talked endlessly, the MhZ thing is way overrated where the average joe is concerned. I doubt a PC 35 million Hz Pentium whatever would do this stuff any faster.

It is the law of dimenishing returns and somewhere not too far out there, average joe will have enough computer to last two lifetimes.

No way can I see anymore longterm growth story for any of the PC stocks. Nationwide broadband apps are the only thing I can think of to make any kind of possible driver for the masses of people to continue to "trade up".

In a year or so, that will leave Dell in nowhere land for consumer sales. And then what? Well, per shareholder vote, it is no longer Dell Computer; Now it is just Dell Inc.

Looking at it that way ( assuming I'm even close to being correct ) I figure Apple has probably got it right on the consumer pricing: Keep the margins up and fight the marketing battles on value-added and quality as opposed to getting into an all out price war with Dell and the white boxes that Apple would have no chance of winning no matter how hard it tried.

Apple will be a profitable company, but AAPL is no growth story.
