Stockboy the minerals portion is a non issue. Don't waste your breath.

While the filter can be rated for that long, I wouldn't wait over a year. Of course I wouldn't use it. You can get RO water at a store for about .40-50 cents through a machine. Dollar for dollar, I still don't use it myself.
