FWIW..I don't recall these PR's having this wording:
Audio codec suits portable
Internet music playerse.Digital (San Diego, Calif.) has licensed AAC (Advanced Audio Coding) technology for use in e.Digital's portable, multi-codec Internet music player and digital jukebox designs. With the AAC support, e.Digital's MicroOS-based portable platform can be incorporated into various products, including portable digital music players or jukeboxes, home and automotive stereos, and functionally enhanced wireless phones.

In addition to higher-quality music reproduction, AAC is being utilized together with Digital Rights Management (DRM) technologies, which control the unrestricted copying and unlawful distribution of songs. e.Digital's Internet music player and jukebox designs support multiple DRMs in an effort to protect music from piracy.

AAC is an audio codec that has been standardized by the International Standards Organization (ISO) as part of the MPEG specification. AAC is a product of the united efforts of numerous organizations, including AT&T, Dolby Laboratories, Fraunhofer Institute for Integrated Circuits, and Sony. Seen as the successor to MP3 technology, AAC has been adopted in applications ranging from electronic music distribution, digital radio in the United States and Japan, and digital television in Japan. ATRAC3 format enters portable music player designs
e.Digital (San Diego, Calif.) has announced a licensing agreement to incorporate Sony's proprietary ATRAC3 sound-compression technology into e.Digital's portable Internet music player designs. e.Digital's multi-codec platform, including ATRAC3 support, can be incorporated into a variety of products such as portable digital music players, home and automotive stereos, and functionally enhanced wireless phones. The companies are working together with the goal of building players with maximum sound quality and compression, while also promoting secure, SDMI-capable designs that will support popular music from major record labels.

ATRAC3 is a codec that was developed from ATRAC (adaptive transform acoustic coding), the sound-compression technology that's utilized in MiniDisc. ATRAC3 boasts high sound quality and the necessary compression rate for electronic music distribution. It compresses sound using current sound-compression technologies and engineering expertise together with band splitting filters and MDCTs (modified discrete cosine transforms), as well as gain-control technology. The ATRAC3 encoding/decoding process is relatively less complex than other approaches, allowing it to be incorporated into smaller ICs that are suitable for implementation in portable products.

e.Digital's Internet audio player platform offers functionality along with a flexible design, which is enabled by the MicroOS file management system. The company has created a menu of options in an effort to provide quick time to market for manufacturers, licensees, or private-labelers interested in marketing devices capable of playing music that has been downloaded from the Internet.
