NASDAQ Short Interest

New Algorithm
A new algorithm will be used to calculate the average daily share volume, within NASDAQ Short Interest, for issues that experience corporate actions such as stock splits, reverse stock splits, etc. The new algorithm for average daily share volume will also be used to determine the “Days to Cover” statistics.

Currently, there are 12 rolling months of historical files available on the Web site and historical files from January 2001 available on the File Transfer Protocol (FTP) site. Those historical data files will be recalculated using the new algorithm going back a rolling 12 months on both versions. Historical data files via the FTP site that are older than 12 rolling months will no longer be available. Therefore, on May 30, 2003, only files back to June 2003 will be available via the FTP site. Users that have previously downloaded short interest files should download the new files using the new algorithm.
