The kenaf was acquired when Hemp Inc purchased the decorticator at auction. It was an unexpected bonus. Yes, they had to throw some away due to mold, but so what? I don't think that can even be classified as a sunk cost.
Let's not forget, the decorticator was acquired for about a tenth of the manufacturer value, which is roughly $20M... and takes years to build.
