Level 3 is one of the top four carriers in the Metro Ethernet Services Market

MOUNTAIN VIEW, California, April 21, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Based on its recent analysis of the business metro carrier Ethernet services market, Frost & Sullivan recognizes Level 3 Communications with the 2015 United States Frost & Sullivan Award for Competitive Strategy Innovation and Leadership. Level 3 has established itself as a leading competitor in the business services market through its delivery of dynamic Ethernet services and continued expansion of its global Ethernet footprint. Level 3 strengthened its brand in the intensely competitive business metro carrier Ethernet services market.

"Level 3's market share more than tripled from 3.6% in 2013 to 12.2% in 2014," said Frost & Sullivan industry director Roopa Honnachari. "In recent years, we have seen the transformation of Level 3 into a truly global communication services company that caters to the enterprise, government, content provider, and wholesale carrier segments."

Ethernet
The 2014 acquisition of tw telecom gave Level 3 immediate access to an enviable fiber-based metro Ethernet footprint, which is comprised of more than 21,000 fiber-connected buildings and advanced network capabilities such as dynamic bandwidth allocation. Since then, Level 3 launched its software-defined networking-based Adaptive Network Control Solutions portfolio, which includes an Ethernet bandwidth on demand solution, and expanded its Ethernet footprint to nearly 250 markets globally. Additional expansion is planned for late 2016.

Level 3 also has shown a strong commitment to industry standards for Carrier Ethernet services, and is an active proponent of the MEF's mission to accelerate the worldwide adoption and interoperability of carrier-class Ethernet networks and services through consistent standards and certification. The company employs a number of MEF CE Certified Professionals (MEF-CECP) to run its Ethernet network.

Cloud Connectivity
Level 3 adopted a network-focused approach to cloud computing and is now well positioned to make the most of the demand for high-performance private networking for cloud connectivity. It partners with pure-play cloud providers such as Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Microsoft Azure, and with carrier neutral colocation providers to offer private network connectivity to cloud users. Its Cloud Connect Solutions include multiprotocol label switching virtual private network (MPLS VPN), Ethernet, and private line services.

Metro Footprint
Level 3's focus on both a deep metro footprint and global connectivity means the best of both worlds for customers. It has been able to better support end-to-end service level agreements (SLAs) due to a wider on-net footprint across top metros.

Competitive Strategy Innovation and Leadership Award
Each year, Frost & Sullivan presents this award to the company that has leveraged competitive intelligence to successfully execute a competitive strategy that results in stronger market share, competitive brand positioning, and customer satisfaction.
