Hi there Umphreys and welcome to iHub! CARA is not a "pot stock" persay but they have been lumped into that category because they happen to have a synthetic cannabinoid drug in preclinical trials (CR701) that acts on the cannibinoid receptors in the brain. This is different than their leading compound (CR845) which acts on kappa opioid receptors.

The company's commitment has always been to safer analgesics and they're looking at cannabinoids as another avenue to achieve this. Think of CR701 as more of a fallback to the CR845 program in case it doesn't come to fruition.

Hope that helps. Again I wouldn't get too wrapped up about this being a pot stock or not, although it is cool that they have exposure to this area of research it is likely not what will make the company successful.
