Originally, when they were working dogs, they didn't get groomed. Their hair would tangle into strings, sort of like a fringe. The fringe protected their eyes, but they could still see. Nowadays their hair is combed, and they can't see a thing.

Piggy coulda been a working dog. I once took him to a pool party and he started herding the guests. He was so serious about it I had to put him in the car. He wouldn't let people get back to the house to go to the bathroom.
