Microsofts "Zune" iPod

Microsoft has finally confirmed that they are indeed preparing to manufacture their own iPod rival: http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/articles.php?action=expand,50109
http://www.comingzune.com/

The salient question to us remains, precisely what will Zune run on? Anyone remember reading Dean Takahashi's article in March? If not, read on: http://blogs.mercurynews.com/aei/2006/03/microsofts_plan.html

While you're at it, why not check out the Microsoft/Transmeta SEC filing from April 2005 regarding the "proprietary" Microsoft project: http://www.sec.gov/Archives/edgar/data/1001193/000089161805000621/f11028exv10w22.htm

It gets better - while the surprise of the week was not only that Zune was a reality, but that it would indeed be out by Christmas, it now appears that the release date is much sooner: http://www.betanews.com/article/October_Debut_for_Microsoft_iPod_Killer/1153418667

Course this is all just conjecture, but the pieces are beginning to fall together. I believe it was at the Japan Microprocessor forum, right after the FlexGo announcement, that Ditzel was asked if Transmeta had any more suprises soon forthcoming, to which he replied, "I hope so, but I would be killed if I say anything" or something to that effect. IMHO, the FlexGo project WAS NOT the proprietary Microsoft project, as Intel, AMD etc. all were involved in its development and fully apprised of its launch. At that same forum, Ditzel showcased a new 700mhz Efficeon. What in the world could demand a customized 700mhz Efficeon? Well that's my guess. The next few months could get very interesting. Still haven't sold a share, and ready for a ride.
