This was a topic at our Legislative Breakfast this morning (we hold one every other month with state & Fed reps). Senator Baldwin wants to give everyone two years of "free" education. Several in our community thought that as a bad idea, because nothing is free and see it as more federal spending that will go bad. Part of the conversation dealt with getting kids to understand and take responsibility for the fiscal well being. Far top many end up with a 4-year degree, in an area with no jobs, and saddled with debt.
Some grass root things we are doing at the chamber: Career fair for junior & senior high school students, financial literacy and career paths with 8th graders, addressing students with disabilities and their transition to the adult work world and creating a CEO in the Classroom program so kids understand what is expected of them as they enter the workforce
