I am not going to defend Bush, I am not a fan of his, but I followed the Florida incident extremely closely. I do believe that more voters intended to vote for Gore, the butterfly ballot was prone to create confusion, but I don't think there was any foul play in it, the order was decided alphabetically and the county Democratic party gave it their stamp of approval ahead of time. Unfortuantely you can't use assumptions about how someone might have wanted to vote to judge a ballot, doing that would open an infinitely large can of worms. When the ballots were counted and recounted and recounted, Bush was the winner each time, it is too bad that it happened, but it happened. Furthermore it is not productive to bring it up today, he clearly did get the majority of the votes in 2004 and the whole issue is what I referred to as the Democrats punting on the first down. Yes you are mad at Bush, but you've got to let the hate go and actually have an agenda, you've got to advance the ball with your offense and stop punting and waiting for a scandal interception that isn't going to happen. The Democrats have two choices 1. Hate and attack Bush, 2. Actually campaign for real issues. Option 1 is easier and more fun, but it gets you nothing, Option 2 is a lot more work, but it might get you something. Nearly 6 years of failure with option 1 tells me we need to deep six it and try option 2.
