I think it's a forlorn conclusion to say that an increase in GMs means that Pentium 4 is losing competitiveness (at least, that seems to be the conclusion aiming to be made here).

Not at all, I was merely reporting that AMD's GMs seem to have recovered slightly, plus some commentary on Chipguy's suggestion that the quality of the P4 core design could be judged from Intel's GMs.
