I was traveling in Central America on business last month, when to my surprise I encountered a full page advertisement in a local magazine for robotic surgery using the Da Vinci Si system. The ad was placed by the National Hospital of Costa Rica and featured a very detailed photo of the Si system and listed the types of procedures the system is capable of performing. The ad also showed four smaller photos of surgeons using the apparatus.
It was a very impressive and informative ad. Costa Rica is a well known destination for patients seeking advanced treatment at an affordable cost. Patients from Canada, US and Europe go to Costa Rica for operations and post op recovery in a tropical setting.
