Dear Mas:

First Wbmw was wrong in many things. He said market share which if you look at the context was unit share. AMD has been above 15% in unit share for all of 2005, by Q4/05 they were well above 20%, making 2x1MB Opterons, FXs and A64 X2s, 2x512KB X2s, 1MB Opterons, FXs, A64s and Turions, 512KB A64s and Turions, and 128/256KB Semprons both desktop and mobile. That takes much more wafer area than 256KB K7s and AXPs. And all from Fab 30.

So Wbmw was wrong on all counts there. Do not make the mistake that the percentages quoted were for revenue share, even though AMD passed 15% there too in Q4. They have gotten over 18% last quarter (Q2/06). Granted Fab 36 is ramping and Chartered is helping. Building inventory for the back to school period and socket F Opteron launch.

So of course Wbmw wants to say now that revenue share was meant, when very few talked of revenue share in 2003. And so the estimate was breached in early 2005, long before Fab 36 was ready.

And wbmw would have put anyone in a verbal straightjacket for saying AMD would gain revenue share from Intel for 5 straight quarters, take away most of the 4 socket and up x86 server market and that Intel would have to slice CPU prices by one third to one half just to lose only 1 or 2% more revenue share in a quarter. And would be livid at the disasterous Q2 Intel just had wrt AMD.

Pete
