EBM LBM slideshow questions.

My take is that EBM produces Ti alloys with very desirable Widmanstätten pattern in grain structure, LBM does not. But I have questions. I'll have to leave stress and strain discussions for later.

Slide #16. Stainless steel, toolsteel, titanium and aluminum are all conductive. Why can't EBM be used for these? Only special Ti alloys are listed for EBM.

Slide #17. I thought maximum build size for EBM was greater than for LBM.

Slide #22. Elongated grains characteristic of epitaxial growth aligned with heat flow, then says, no epitaxial growth apparant? Does this mean LBM has epitaxial growth along YZ plane but not along XZ plane, or perpendicular to heat flow?

Slide #23. EBM has equiaxed morphology like LBM perpendicular to building direction. I suppose that build direction is the same as heat flow direction? EBM has epitaxial growth parallel to build direction but with no tilt in grain orientation. An advantage here? Appears to be as Widmanstätten pattern isn't possible with tilt as I understand it.

Slide #25. EBM has two types of porosities due to Argon entrapped in powder? Argon is used in LBM I know, so does this mean Argon is used in the production of Ti alloy powders?
