Hi Rayo, just a guess but I'm thinking the reason for cross breeding them is to ensure they are suitable for the environment, climate and conditions here in Vietnam. I hear that silkworms can be pretty sensitive to changes in factors such as the above so cross breeding may simply be to increase the hardiness of the worms to Vietnam.

I wouldn't be surprised if Kim and the team have tested this by hatching, spinning and reeling some MS and realised that the worms were a little bit homesick (not 100% efficient).
