Wonder what if anything actually happened to XGEN and Carole?

Was Jack actually a huge shorter looking to destroy any and all interest in the company and create a giant PPS drop? If so, he succeeded wildly and then disappeared.
So who has a history of shorting stocks he is involved with and manipulating things so that he makes a killing off of failing companies??? Jack knew the answer to this. Was Jack the very same person?
