Steven, I agree, one shouldn't buy during the first 10-20 minutes unless the stock has a massively juicy PR before open. What I'm simply explaining is that one shouldn't place a buy order before open no matter what... it just increases the gap... that's great for those selling, but it doesn't work for those wanting to buy cheap.
