Putting a buy in before market opens at the ASK is the worst thing you can do. The market makers will just increase the ASK and you won't get any. This is why gappers happen. People bid up before open and those selling just cancel their ASK and increase it (i.e. MM's). One should never place a buy before the market... if you want it, put your bid in at the ASK right at 9:30AM.
