The exponential decrease in cost/function has been driving not just Intel but the entire silicon valley complex for decades. The exponential improvements will be replaced by something much slower - like the progress in cars or airplane technology.

This has profound implications that I think most people in the valley haven't yet internalized. Imagine if Moore's law had stopped in the year 2000 - oops - no mass-market smartphones.
