My guess is the disparity in projected sales relates to the fact that you can simply inject the gel, but probuphine requires a surgical procedure.

Not really sure how that plays out in the real world. An injection is a whole lot easier than an implant, but an implant requires an office visit to remove so it's less easy for someone to just disappear and not follow up on treatment.

The knock I've heard on injectibles is that they present a problem in the even you need surgery for another medical condition. The drug is in your system and there is no way to get it out...which makes administering pain meds in the event of emergency surgery problematic. Probuphine can always be removed at any time through an office visit, so it doesn't have that complication.
