What is ironic is that Russia could actually turn off their own drilling short term to flip the supply side back down to under the demand side.

... you would have read that the reason that this has not occurred (yet?) is that in that scenario the other players get more $$$ for their oil while NOT cutting back their production... leaving Russia even worse of...

Doing this 'short term' would also have a short term effect, because if production will be increased again, prices fall again.
