We have a Generac 10 KW Generator with a buried 500 gallon propane tank. Good for about a month without a propane refill. We replaced our electric stove with a propane stove.

People need to look at the burn rate of generators and realize that not everything needs to be powered in the house. Many people get 16-20KW generators which are not as practical. We paid about 2700 for the generator and another 500 for the electrician. Places like Home Depot are a real rip off. The gas company ran the lines for free and are responsible for maintenance. This is because we pay 65.00 a year to lease the tank. Better than buying.

Natural Gas provides around 12% less energy or a little under 8 KW for the same generator. One nice thing about the propane tank is one does not need to worry about the supply of natural gas being cut off in an emergency situation.
