I did that too a couple times where I did a real hard hook with everything I had and hit toward the back half and had a little stinger from that. Wearing gloves pretty much fixes that and aiming for the front half also helps. When I owned a heavy bag, it would pack down so that the bottom half felt like cement and if I accidently hit it too low, even with gloves I thought I would break my hand. I have not had that feeling with the combo hitter.
