This is shaping up to be a two tier system. At present it is a one tier system in Canada. The only legal game in Canada is pharmaceutical. Pharmaceuticals are sold in drugstores with DIN (Drug Identification Numbers) and there is no reason that pharma grade pot can't be retailed by this established system. If/when rec pot legalization happens the only reason for the government to legalize is to collect the tax revenue. The home growers with license will be held to such high standards that they will just grow for themselves and a few friends or give up. The boutiques pot shops and compassion clubs will be reigned in to buy from the licensed producers that have been set up and regulated. The underground ditch weed dealer will always be there in the shadows just like the moonshiners we see on tv but it won't be significant in the greater scheme of things. In Canada Health insurers are starting to recognize and re-imburse drug costs so I expect there to be a lid on the prices they will pay. The rec market I would imagine would be more expensive and the government liquor stores are already established to supply liquor in a controlled atmosphere to keep it out of the hands of minors. The liquor store is a good fit for a restricted product like pot. The ma and pa potshops might be a thing of the past or they may rise to the standards set by government to grow into chain boutiques for rec pot. Jmho of things to come the way I see it unfolding. CGC is locked, loaded and has both targets in its crosshairs. I think they also have a lot of influence in writing the rule books as they go because they know more than most of the government people do. glta and dyodd
