How about this weird coincidence I discovered tonight?

2011: The EPA presented Sherwin-Williams Company of Cleveland, Ohio with one of five 2011 Presidential Green Chemistry Challenge Awards during a ceremony in Washington, DC on June 20. The honor recognizes the development of an innovative new paint formulation that utilizes soybean oil and recycled plastic bottles (PET) and reduces volatile organic compounds (VOCs) by 60 percent.

2012: Sherwin Williams is in the process of developing new, biobased paints using soybeans. Because of the potential for biobased products to create new markets for soybeans, U.S. soybean farmers have invested millions of dollars to research, test and promote soy biobased products.

2011: Hybrid Coating Technologies Inc. (OTCBB:HCTI) announced today the filing of U.S. Patent Appl. No. 13/028,067 prepared by its strategic research arm Polymate, Inc. The new patent which is filed under the Company's licensing agreement, entitled "A method of producing a hybrid polyhydroxyurethane network," provides a significant reduction of the petroleum component by substituting it with carbonized soybean oil in the Company's Green Polyurethane product while maintaining and improving all of the favorable product characteristics.

Sherwin-Williams wins the SAME EPA Green Chemistry Presidential Award in 2011 for its pioneering use of soybean oil. Later that year, HCTI files patent (the patent that just got granted in 2015) changing its formula to soybean oil. 2 companies, same EPA award, using soybean oil. If they weren't collaborating then, it seems like it'd be an eventual match made in heaven.
