Former local business owner sentenced for filing false tax returns

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) The former owner of Fort Wayne-based global cleaning product company was sentenced in federal court to more than two years in prison for filing false tax returns then lying about it to investigators.

Jared E. Hochstedler, 40, of Fort Wayne was sentenced to 27 months in prison, one year of supervised release and ordered to pay $1,232,739 in restitution to the Internal Revenue Service, the Department of Justice announced this week. He pleaded guilty in February to two counts of willfully filing false income tax returns and one count of committing perjury.

What’s more, investigators said in 2009, Hochstedler sold stock in another company for more than $1 million and did not report the full amount of the proceeds as a capital gain on his 2009 tax return.
