Anyway, I despise politics and political discussions of all sorts

Same here.

Christmas eve here is a 4 hour marathon of eating. Christmas day is another 4 hour marathon.

There are breaks, fortunately, or maybe unfortunately, between courses when discussions start up. Marianne's father was a journalist for 40 years and these conversations always turn to politics. As my eyes start to gloss over I realise, thank God, that there are children in the house to play with.

So during the breaks I'm their best friend, they don't give a shit about politics
